Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund

Lacey Michael and Larkin Jim are the co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media. Michael and Larkin made a decision to use the money earned out of their arrest by Sheriff Arpaio Joe, to help migrants. They created Frontera fund with the money, using it to fund organizations in Arizona that advocate for protecting human rights of the migrants.

Their arrest which was undertaken with no valid reason is one of the reasons they decided to stand up and advocate for human rights protection. They realized that the migrants are the people who experience challenges and their rights are most of the time violated. For this reason, they created the movement to offer support to them.

Their arrest by Sheriff Joe took place in the year 2007 where they were taken from their homes in the middle of the night and taken to jail after they revealed the existence of grand jury proceedings which led to reporters covering the Sheriff in their articles. People in power do not like it when they are covered in various articles concerning the secrets they keep from the members of the public. This is the reason Sheriff Joe was concerned and had them jailed, to ensure other journalists were careful about what they advertise and publish. However, their charges were dropped and they got back to the Sheriff by suing him.

The major contribution made by Larkin & Lacey to advocate for protecting human rights through their Frontera Fund movement is their devotion to finding approaches of funding. Fundraising plays a significant role in making sure all advocacy groups work together to ensure all their set goals are achieved.

Larkin & Lacey have worked tirelessly to find all possible funding approaches and they have contributed greatly in supporting advocacy groups because when they received their compensation they used the money to help fund the human rights organizations.
