Norka Martinez Luque: The Role Model to Aspiring Musicians

Breaking into the mainstream music industry is no easy job. Becoming successful in the music industry requires much more than just recording a good few songs and distributing them to your friends. Most successful musicians face a lot of challenges before making it big as professional musicians. Here, I share Norka Luque’s story with all the aspiring musicians out there.

Ms. Martinez was born in Caracas, Venezuela on February 7, 1985. The young Norka grew knowing that she would one day become an international star. She admits that she did not know that the journey would be so full of challenges.

During her early life, she took art lessons in singing, instrument and dance. The knowledge she acquired from the art school enabled her to win junior music competitions such as the “Golden Voice” and “School Festival of Gaitas.”

Ms. Martinez moved to France to further her studies. Luque enrolled in a French business school where she majored in business administration. After four years of hard work, she graduated successful and moved to Monaco where she had a short banking career.

Norka Luque did not like the banking job; she realized that the job did not give her a chance to do other things. Upon realizing that, she quit and ventured into the music industry. She started by joining a band – Bad Moon Rising as a soloist.

She stayed with the band for several years as she gained knowledge of the music industry. Through this band, she met professionals (music producers and songwriters) who gave her advice concerning the music industry.

When she was convinced that she had gained the knowledge that she needed, she part ways with the band and moved to the United States. She settled in Miami and enrolled in a music school where she sharpened her art. After she had completed the music course, she decided to begin her professional journey as a solo artist.

She knew that to make it as a solo artist; she needed a mentor. So she embarked on a search to find a perfect mentor. In 2008, she met Emilio Estefan Jr., the Grammy Award winning producer who has made the careers of big artists like Shakira, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan and a host of other artists. Meeting Mr. Estefan transformed her life completely. It was after she met him that her career took off.
