Without the proper capital, a business can grow so fast that it stretches its capital too thin.

Sweet Green

With all of the new locations opening around the country, Sweet Green is in a great position. It has a lot of loyal customers who are willing to pay more for healthy and natural food. This is a market that is expected to grow in the future as well. However, there are always going to be some people that do not want to pay more for quality food. In many geographic locations, Sweet Green is a concept that will not work over the long term. That is why Nathaniel Ru has been so picky about where he starts his new locations.

Future Plans

In the coming years, Nathaniel Ru plans to continue to expand locations for Sweet Green. He feels like there are dozens of additional locations where this concept can easily work. With the capital he has raised, he feels like the time is right to invest in growth for Sweet Green.

Norka Martinez Luque: The Role Model to Aspiring Musicians

Breaking into the mainstream music industry is no easy job. Becoming successful in the music industry requires much more than just recording a good few songs and distributing them to your friends. Most successful musicians face a lot of challenges before making it big as professional musicians. Here, I share Norka Luque’s story with all the aspiring musicians out there.

Ms. Martinez was born in Caracas, Venezuela on February 7, 1985. The young Norka grew knowing that she would one day become an international star. She admits that she did not know that the journey would be so full of challenges.

During her early life, she took art lessons in singing, instrument and dance. The knowledge she acquired from the art school enabled her to win junior music competitions such as the “Golden Voice” and “School Festival of Gaitas.”

Ms. Martinez moved to France to further her studies. Luque enrolled in a French business school where she majored in business administration. After four years of hard work, she graduated successful and moved to Monaco where she had a short banking career.

Norka Luque did not like the banking job; she realized that the job did not give her a chance to do other things. Upon realizing that, she quit and ventured into the music industry. She started by joining a band – Bad Moon Rising as a soloist.

She stayed with the band for several years as she gained knowledge of the music industry. Through this band, she met professionals (music producers and songwriters) who gave her advice concerning the music industry.

When she was convinced that she had gained the knowledge that she needed, she part ways with the band and moved to the United States. She settled in Miami and enrolled in a music school where she sharpened her art. After she had completed the music course, she decided to begin her professional journey as a solo artist.

She knew that to make it as a solo artist; she needed a mentor. So she embarked on a search to find a perfect mentor. In 2008, she met Emilio Estefan Jr., the Grammy Award winning producer who has made the careers of big artists like Shakira, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan and a host of other artists. Meeting Mr. Estefan transformed her life completely. It was after she met him that her career took off.

George Soros Fights Against Smears Over His Political Donations

The fallout from the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections continues, but some of the attacks seen in the current elections cycle that saw Donald Trump reach the highest office in the land are similar to those taking place for a number of years. Republican supporting news agencies, particularly Fox News, have been looking for ways to undermine the good works of hedge fund billionaire George Soros for many years; instead of praising the former World War II refugee for his work in bringing democracy to the world he has been attacked on a number of fronts for supporting liberal causes.

2010 saw the most lavish attacks on George Soros to date after he made large donations to the Presidential campaigns of John Kerry in 2004 and then Senator Barrack Obama in 2008. The attacks by Glenn Beck in 2010 had little to no factual evidence to back up the claims of the then Fox news employee; the few grains of truth to be found in these programs were twisted to suit the needs of the broadcaster in creating a view of George Soros among conservatives that created the opinion that the man born in Hungary in 1930 was some form of Democratic puppet master.

George Soros has lived a life that should be seen as a sign of what can be achieved in the face of the deepest adversity possible. As a child Soros saw his home country invaded by troops from Nazi Germany who were determined to wipe out members of the Jewish faith, such as George Soros, and forced the family to hide their true beliefs from the authorities and local people in a bid to survive. After surviving the Holocaust Soros set out on a journey as a refugee after he was subjected to life in Hungary under Communist rule that took him across Europe before he eventually settled in London and studied economics on wsj.com. The final leg of his refugee journey took George Soros to Wall Street where his hedge funds achieved record breaking results year after year, and allowed him to be reunited with his parents who had fled Hungary after the failed uprising of 1956.

The antisemitism faced by George Soros at the hands of Glenn Beck and other conservatives highlights the role of the founder of the Open Society Foundations in popular uprisings across what was then the Soviet bloc. Detractors of George Soros fail to mention these uprisings took place in Communist and Communist sympathizing countries, and were completed in a bid to bring democracy to people who had no experience of living a free life. The three hours of attacks on George Soros by Glenn Beck in 2010 brought criticism from conservative organizations for their lack of truth and the anti-semetic rhetoric used in these Fox News specials.

Review of Nathaniel Ru of Sweetgreen and Redefining a Healthy Lifestyle

Nearly all the students in Georgetown understand what Sweetgreen is all about as they are able to get snacks after their workouts, and quick lunches between their lectures from the food joint. A quick rewind to six years earlier, no one knew about it except for its would-be founders Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru and Jonathan Neman (MSB ’07). The three final year students talked about the few choices available in healthy and affordable food around the Georgetown area. This led to their close bond attributed to three key things: food, yearning to come up with something and bringing about a solution that would sort the situation they were in. This culminated in the laying down of a good vision and a business plan was made. No one among the trio had any prior business experience, but their parents were successful entrepreneurs.

They faced various challenges at the start especially about their small area but they chose to see the positive in all of them. They became creative and decide to put all their energies on the area that the business would not last without. They settled to focus more on the sustainability of the business and using the best quality of ingredients. The trio went further and sought advice from experienced restaurant owners, architects and the faculty at Georgetown. They got a lot of value from the business classes they attended especially on matters to do with value-driven ventures and the way a certain community culture influences a brand. The trio appreciate the emphasis that Georgetown places on importance of service, and how big the school has grown in its entrepreneurship program. Nathaniel Ru and his two co-founders have incorporated an element of community service through the “Sweetgreen in Schools” program launched in 2010. This program was initiated in order to educate children on nutrition matters and healthy living.

About Nathaniel Ru

Nathaniel Ru graduated from Georgetown University in 2007 with a BS Finance, McDonough School of Business. That was the same year that Nathaniel and his two friends plaaned and founded the Sweetgreen. It was to be a casual and fast seasonal kitchen that focused on local sourcing and sustainability. The trio started the first branch in Georgetown and it has now grown into 27 branches that are found in six states. The company harbors expansion plans to the West Coast come 2015.

Nathaniel and his team ensured they offered customers with food that fit their values, taste, budget, imagination and the community. The trio started a music and food festival “Sweetlife” that is the biggest in the area. It was created to boost sales.

Self Expression Is Key For Doe Deere

Doe Deere has always taken her own route through life and business after deciding her own ideas for cosmetics could become a successful career in the beauty industry. Deere has always looked at her life and career with a different slant, something she largely relates to her upbringing in Russia and New York; the 2008 launch of her own Lime Crime brand that has proven to be an almost unlimited success came out of her first attempts at creating a career through her sewing skills she developed studying fashion in New York City.

One of the first questions Doe Deere is always asked when she sets out to explain her life and business is where the name Lime Crime came from, and what it means; the answer is a simple one, Doe Deere originally opened an eBay account to sell her own products and needed an account name that eventually became “LimeCrime”. The founder of the cosmetics company now states she believes the name Lime Crime reflects her favorite color and the nature of the products she develops, which are so bold and colorful that she believes they are close to being classed as illegal.

The busy life of the entrepreneur has been the daily career of Deere since the 2008 launch of her cosmetics brand, which was born out of her own starting point of a clothing line. Prior to her successful career as a cosmetics executive, Doe Deere, spent a long period of time forming her clothing brand and singing with a band she started with her husband. The Los Angeles based entrepreneur now states the only regret she has as a business person is her failure to launch the Lime Crime range of cosmetics earlier in her life, and embark upon her recent period of success earlier in her adult life.

Like almost every other entrepreneur Doe Deere works hard to achieve the success she has already won and that she hopes to continue to achieve in the future. A brief rundown of each day sees the Lime Crime founder meet with her Creative Director and Chief Operating Officer to make sure the plans she has set out for the company continue to be achieved. From there Doe Deere can finally look to take part in the daily activities she loves, including time spent by the self taught cosmetics creator in the Lime Crime lab working alongside expert scientists to create the latest ranges of cruelty free cosmetics. Despite the success she has achieved in the last decade Doe Deere continues to feel she must treat her employees in the same way she hopes to be treated in her life by being appreciated for the work they complete in an uplifting fashion.
